EN40B is a chromium-molybdenum nitriding steel characterised by its suitability for
nitriding which promotes high wear resistance. EN40B Engineering Steel offers high wear
resistance. The alloy also offers good shock resistance and good toughness and ductility.
EN40B is supplied in the hardened and tempered ‘T’ condition. It is classed as a nitriding
steel. EN40B is a chromium-molybdenum nitriding steel usually supplied in the hardened and
tempered condition, which offers high wear resistance together with good toughness and
ductility. It is characterised by its suitability for nitriding, which can give a hard wear
resistant core in the range of 61-65Rc.
The relatively low temperature of the nitriding process produces components with a scale
free surface, and minimum distortion. The material is supplied in the hardened and tempered
‘T’ condition, EN40B offers good toughness and good ductility. The nitriding process
